A Small Site Almost Forgotten: The Wildcat Site, A Fort Ancient Settlement in Dayton, Ohio by Dr. Robert Cook, OSU Department of Anthropology.

The Wildcat site is a small Fort Ancient settlement in the upper portion of the Miami River valley, near to the much larger village of SunWatch. OSU-led excavations at the site over the last few years have uncovered several remains of houses and associated features, as well as a ritual post located to the west of the residential area. This presentation summarizes these key features, focusing on how they were discovered and what we have been learning about their associated artifacts and ecofacts. Alternate scenarios to account for the integration of this smaller site into the regional settlement pattern will also be presented.
