Local Civil Rights Activist and 1960s Freedom Riders to be featured at Black History Month Student Program at Ohio History Center, Feb. 12

 

Program to screen Freedom Riders, part of a national film series

What: The Ohio Historical Society invites the public and students to a special showing of Freedom Riders, part of the national film series Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle. Students will see an abbreviated version of the 2011 film, which offers an inside look at a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights struggle of the 1960s, when a brave band of activists challenged segregation in the Deep South.

Local community leaders including Shirley Wilson and John Cantrell, two Freedom Riders of the 1960s, and Civil Rights activist Bishop C. Joseph Sprague of the United Methodist Church will introduce the showing.

When: Wednesday, February 12, 2014
9:30 am: Meet and Greet; Refreshments
10 am: Introduction to film by speakers

Bishop C. Joseph Sprague, Civil rights activist and bishop in the United Methodist Church.

Shirley Wilson, 1960s freedom rider who is a board member of the Kelton House.

John Cantrell, 1960s freedom rider who works with the Buckeye Ranch.

10:30-12 pm: Created Equal Film, Freedom Riders
