Check It Out: Women’s History Resource

 

The Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame has a searchable, online database of the accomplished Ohio women who have been inducted between 1978 and 2009.

Helen Grace McClelland of Fredericktown, Ohio when she was inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame in 1978. She served with the Army Nurses Corps in France and Belgium during World War I and received the Distinguished Service Cross.

Records about the inductees compiled by the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame and are available for use in the Archives/Library at the Ohio Historical Center. Jacquelyn Mayer from Sandusky, Ohio won the Miss America pageant in 1962. In 1970, Mayer suffered a stroke which left her paralyzed and without speech. She recovered and helped to found the National Stroke Association. Mayer was inducted into the Ohio Womens Hall of Fame in 1997.
