Because of a major paving project affecting our parking lots, the Ohio History Center museum at 800 E. 17th Ave. in Columbus is closed to the general public from Thursday, April 16, through Tuesday, April 28.

Previously scheduled visits and Archives & Library appointments will be honored. Please call the Ohio History Center at 614-297-2300 for entry procedures and details on parking.

The project is weather-dependent, so please check ohiohistory.org and our social media accounts for updates on reopening.

Rescheduled date TBD:

Andy Verhoff, former site manager of the Campus Martius and Ohio River Museums in Marietta, will share the history of the inland rivers towboat, the W.P. SNYDER Jr., moored at the river museum. From the 1910s to the 1950s, the steam powered paddle wheel of the SNYDER pushed barges laden with coal on the Monongahela and Ohio Rivers. Join us to discover what it was like to live and work on the boat, how she ended up at a museum and what it was like to care for her. Why was she called a towboat, when she instead pushed barges?

This program is part of Ohio Moves: Transportation, April's theme during America 250-Ohio's celebration of our state's heritage.
