As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country, Historian Keith Bengtson of Fort Ancient will explain why the Fort Ancient Earthworks really began in what is now Virginia.

Fort Ancient sits on the far western edge of the Virginia Military district of the late 1700s. He will have an 18th Century surveyors camp set up and will explain how Ohio was divided up.

This hands-on event will allow participants to really see how big an acre is by using recreated measuring devices to lay out a plot of land. Keith will also discuss and demonstrate how Native American techniques could have been used to measure and mark geometric earthworks 2000 years ago.
