Tour the 1830s home of Daniel McCook, now a museum honoring the Ohio family remembered as the “Fighting McCooks” for the large number of members who served in the Union Army during the Civil War. The restored house has exhibits on the McCook family and the Civil War plus several period-decorated rooms. Average visit time: Allow 1+ hours

History

In 1837, Daniel McCook built this large brick house on the southwest corner of the public square in Carrollton, where it was occupied by his family until 1848. It was acquired by the state of Ohio in 1941 and dedicated in 1947 as a memorial to the gallant “Fighting McCooks” because of their contribution to the military, especially in the Civil War.

The McCook House is locally managed by the Carroll County Historical Society.
