On Sunday, September 13, from 1–4 p.m., Grandparents’ Day, you are invited to bring your grandparent to Harvey One Room School. You will be shown a display of antique metal pails, boxes, and baskets used by children to carry their lunches. Butter will be made, and an early version of waxed paper will be shared.
After discussing the exceptional difference that nutrition from a rural agricultural setting can make, you and your grandparent will choose from items such as cold meats, hard-cooked eggs, cheese, homemade bread, garden vegetables, fruit including apples, and assorted desserts. Using a piece of linen and twine, you will wrap your selected lunch items, draw cold water from the pump, and choose a spot in the yard or inside to enjoy your meal together.
Our mission is to demonstrate the rich value of lunches coming from a rural agricultural setting.
