“What’s In Your Lunch?”
Sep. 13
Harvey One-Room School House 1120 Caldwell Road Bucyrus, Ohio 44820 Open in Google Map
September 13, 2026 / 1-4 p.m.

Additional Considerations:
We are a one room school. There are 2 privies in the back yard with a handicapped boardwalk ramp leading into our building. A pump in the front yard yields safe, cold drinking water. We will be in period costumes and invite you to dress up. You can take all the photos you want. You can walk through our 12-year-old prairie. There will be ample benches and desks, but you are free to bring a blanket or your own chairs. Do not be surprised if Brian rides in on his high wheeler cycle in costume.
ALL - Free

On Sunday, September 13, from 1–4 p.m., Grandparents’ Day, you are invited to bring your grandparent to Harvey One Room School. You will be shown a display of antique metal pails, boxes, and baskets used by children to carry their lunches. Butter will be made, and an early version of waxed paper will be shared.

After discussing the exceptional difference that nutrition from a rural agricultural setting can make, you and your grandparent will choose from items such as cold meats, hard-cooked eggs, cheese, homemade bread, garden vegetables, fruit including apples, and assorted desserts. Using a piece of linen and twine, you will wrap your selected lunch items, draw cold water from the pump, and choose a spot in the yard or inside to enjoy your meal together.

Our mission is to demonstrate the rich value of lunches coming from a rural agricultural setting.
