Session 2: August 23, 10 a.m.–Noon
Hands-on session at Battelle Darby Creek Metropark
If you are still interested in taking part in the hands-on field portion of the stream exploration at Big Darby Creek but missed the first lecture at the Ohio History Center, you can still sign up to participate on the 23rd! Space is limited; preregistration is required.
Learn about the Big and Little Darby Creek State and National Scenic River from ODNR’s Ohio Scenic Rivers Program staff. Learn firsthand about Big Darby Creek and its excellent water quality and aquatic habitat. We’ll begin with a short walk to the river and learn how streamside forests influence aquatic habitat and stream health. Then wade into Big Darby Creek to use nets to collect macroinvertebrates (aquatic bugs like crayfish and insects). You’ll learn how to identify these tiny creatures and recognize their connection to water quality. Event will also explore volunteer opportunities with ODNR’s Division of Natural Areas and Preserves.
WHAT TO BRING & WEAR for session 2: Please wear close-toed shoes that can be worn into the water and clothes that can get wet. Bug spray, a hat and water are also recommended.
