Step inside the recently renovated 1883 Morvilius Opera House and experience a unique entertainment venue from the post–Civil War period.
Guided tours will be offered on September 12 from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m., beginning on the hour and half-hour, or visitors may explore the two-story building at their own pace. The building is fully accessible, with an elevator, new restrooms, and a ramped rear entrance.
The Fort Recovery Opera House is impressively unique among historic venues for its internationally recognized collection of original stage flats—movable scenery used in early productions—as well as its life-sized murals painted by artists of the 1880s. This rare combination of features offers a glimpse into a time when opera houses brought culture and entertainment to rural communities across the United States.
