The Log Cabin Cookout is an annual event that was started in the 1960s and has grown to be very popular. The menu consists of a typical pioneer meal of ham and beans, cornbread and garden fresh vegetables. A couple dressed in period clothing will relate the story of the cabin and early life. Other volunteers will also be dressed in costumes relating to a certain period and some of the famous people from this area. Actors from the local college will provide a skit of an early radio broadcast. The Highland House Museum, home of the Historical Society, will provide guided tours between Noon – 6 p.m. There is no charge for the tour but donations are welcome. Families are encouraged to attend.
