DISPATCH COLUMNIST PONDERS THE QUESTION OF WHEN HUMANS DISCOVERED AMERICA

In today’s paper, John Switzer, the popular columnist for the Columbus Dispatch, writes about the fascinating question of when humans first discovered the Americas. He called me last week to talk about it and I’m quoted in the column. switzerIt’s more or less common usage by journalists, but I wish he wouldn’t say that “Lepper BELIEVES that the Clovis people evolved in America from earlier cultures.” Such questions really aren’t a matter of belief, but of evidence and argument. So, while my interpretation of the available evidence leads me to THINK that Clovis people evolved in America from earlier cultures, I’m always open to considering new evidence, which might change my opinion.
