Contest – I Found It in the Archives!

We know that people get value from their visits to the Ohio Historical Societys archives across the state of Ohio (list of OHS sites can be found here). That is why our staff was eager to participate in the Society of American Archivists I Found It In the Archives! national contest. SAA conceived of I Found It In the Archives! to celebrate both the people who use archives and the history preserved in archives.   The contest entry form, release, and waiver can be found here and must accompany all submissions. OHS Archives/Library staff are accepting written or video submissions January 1-31, 2011. Send your submission by e-mail to [email protected].  Alternately, mail them to:

Ohio Historical Society ATTN: Lisa Long 1982 Velma Ave. Columbus, OH, 43211.

Submissions sent by mail should be postmarked on or before January 31, 2011. Selected submissions will be posted to the Ohio Historical Society Collections blog for an online vote.

After online voting, a state winner will be announced on February 23, 2011. The prize package for the Ohio winner includes a one year family membership to OHS; a voucher for a free genealogy workshop at the Ohio Historical Center in 2011; and a behind the scenes tour of the Centers archives storage area in Columbus. The winning entry will be submitted to the Society of American Archivists national competition. The national contest will culminate in Chicago, SAA headquarters, in August 2011. Want an example?  One of our own archivists, Lisa L., has a story to share!
