Amazing artifacts of the Hopewell culture: a virtual tour of the collections of the Ohio History Connection

The Shaman of Newark was found beneath the largest burial mound located at the center of a cluster of a dozen burial mounds at the monumental Newark Earthworks.

If you aren’t able to visit the Ohio History Center at the moment, but are interested in seeing a few of most spectacular ancient American objects in our collections, then check out the following links to videos, which originally were segments that were featured in WOSU’s Columbus Neighborhoods series.

These objects are some of the masterpieces of the Hopewell culture which arose in southern Ohio at around AD 1 and, until at least AD 400 its influence spread across much of eastern North America. I hope seeing these videos inspires you to want to come and see the actual artifacts someday.
