Tour the Ealy House, a Civil War era farmhouse representing life in the 1860s. A highlight is the quilt illustrating structures that stood in New Albany and Plain Township between 1800 and 1899. A special exhibit features information about the Taylor House, the brick house at the new Taylor Farm Park. It was built in 1863-64 by Lorenzo and Martha Whitsel Taylor. Lorenzo held proceedings as a Justice of the Peace in the basement. Lorenzo’s parents, Anthony Wayne Taylor and Melinda Trumbo Taylor came to Plain Township from Hardy County, Virginia, in 1822. Melinda carried her infant in her lap while she rode the 300 miles on horseback. The couple built a log cabin, and eventually their children built cabins of their own on the property. Both the Ealy and the Taylor houses were built by the Schott family, local brick masons. In the attic at the Ealy House, their signatures may be seen.
