Imagine traveling back in time to 1885! Explore textiles, fabrics, and linens from early Muskingum County history in an immersive setting.

The Dr. Increase Mathews House Museum and Gardens, originally built in 1805, was expanded a century later when Dr. Mathews’ granddaughter added three additional levels to the stone home in 1885.

Go beyond the regular tour and step into that moment in time—where original wallpaper still lines the walls, and doors and windows reveal views from another era.

Visitors will experience collections of wedding gowns, suits, linens, dresses, quilts, embroidery, hats, uniforms, and more, generously donated by Muskingum County families and spanning generations.
