On September 19, the Scioto County Heritage Museum invites you to an Open Doors event showcasing plans for the renovation and expansion of its headquarters at 623 Market Street in Portsmouth.

Housed within a pair of historic buildings that reflect the character of Portsmouth’s traditional downtown fabric, the museum’s future home is undergoing a careful restoration that balances preservation with new functionality. The project includes exterior masonry repairs, accessibility improvements, and sensitively designed additions that will support expanded exhibits and programming while honoring the site’s historic integrity.

Guided by a mission to preserve Scioto County’s past while bringing it into the future through education, restoration, and community engagement, the museum is transforming these structures into a dynamic space for collecting, interpreting, and sharing local history.

During this informal, drop-in event, visitors will have the opportunity to:

  • View architectural renderings and plans for the restoration and addition
  • Learn how the renovation will preserve key historic features while adapting the buildings for public use
  • Speak with museum board members about the project vision and long-term goals
  • Explore the museum’s collections and future programming initiatives

Light refreshments will be available. Stop in to experience how these historic structures are being thoughtfully reimagined and how they will continue to tell Scioto County’s story for generations to come.
