Step inside the extraordinary world of Brownella Cottage during Ohio Open Doors! Explore one of Ohio’s most remarkable historic homes and one of the nation’s most intact Victorian house museums. This self-guided experience takes visitors through the beautifully preserved mansion of Bishop William Montgomery Brown and his wife, Ella, where original furnishings, personal belongings, artwork, and family artifacts remain throughout the home. Along the way, discover the fascinating and controversial story of Bishop Brown, the only Episcopal bishop ever tried for heresy, and learn how the family’s lives, travels, and beliefs shaped this nationally significant landmark. The experience concludes at the Galion History Center Museum and Gift Shop, located in Brownella Cottage’s historic carriage house.
