This rail passenger depot on the B&O line is one of the few preserved due to its architectural significance and role in community events. The Depot Committee works with community partners to introduce, engage, and connect younger generations with the civic pride and hands-on experiences that have been a valued part of Belmont County for generations.
The Committee has worked diligently over the past several decades, with many hands contributing to its success. Visitors are invited to explore the newly restored, fully functional welcome station, a touchable and climbable caboose, and enjoy a guided tour of the grounds. The site also hosts mobile markets and other activities in partnership with neighbors at the Watt Center and the Captina Conservancy.
Visit all three locations, complete the scavenger hunt, and receive a prize at the Watt Center’s “pig.”
Free and ample parking is available. The site has no steps and is stroller- and wheelchair-accessible. This area was a center of Abolitionist activity, and while located north of the Mason-Dixon Line, it reflects the complex and evolving history of the time, including historic water fountains that remain in place today.
Come feel welcome and experience where history meets progress.
