This event is a historic 18-gun artillery salute to celebrate Independence Day. Fort Meigs recreates the ceremony undertaken by the soldiers of 1812. On July 4, 1813, there were 18 toasts given by the officers, 18 songs played by the band and 18 shots from the artillery batteries, one for each state in the nation at the time.
