Rose Frazier: My Journey to Volunteering

Rose Frazier: My Journey to Volunteering

I became a volunteer at the Ohio History Connection 35 years ago. I have always been a lover of history and was looking for a place to volunteer with others that shared that love.

While working for the Columbus City Schools system, I met an employee from the Ohio History Center who invited me to come to the museum and meet other volunteers. I was hooked!

Over the years I have volunteered in the Archives and Library, the museum, Ohio Village, outreach programs, History to Go Van programs and Girl Scout overnights, just to name a few. Two of my favorite have been the village and the History to Go Van. The History to Go Van gave me the chance to travel the state of Ohio visiting schools, youth centers, libraries and other historical sites sharing Ohio history.

I have also portrayed several characters in the village and my favorite has been working with school groups that come throughout the year.

As a volunteer, I have had the opportunity to meet, work and form friendships with many people. It has been a fulfilling experience.
