“LOST WORLD” OF THE ADENA CULTURE FOUND BY OHIO HISTORY CONNECTION VOLUNTEER

Ohio History Connection Archaeology volunteer Sara Nuber Thomas has been devoting her energies to cataloging the old correspondence files of the Archaeology Department. On Friday, she found a copy of a 1954 letter to the Columbus Planning Commission proposing to change the name of a Clintonville creek from Big Run to Adena Brook as a way of honoring the ancient inhabitants of the Dominion Land Company site — one of the area’s most important archaeological sites. Her discovery led to a road trip that she recounts in her own blog — Expedition Finn: things to do in Ohio with a kid. It’s a joyous exploration of the glimpses of the past that are all around us — “if we only know where to look”! Thank you, Sara, for sharing another of those glimpses with us!
