Bird Taxidermy Migrates to New Home
Our bird taxidermy specimens are on the move! We’ve moved and unpacked 442 birds; that’s a lot of feathers! Now, our most fragile specimens are stored in a stable environment.

On Tuesday the students used a total station to plot in the locations of their excavation units (photo 1) and then Dr. Ericksen instructed them on proper digging techniques (photo 2). The sod was scraped off and select 1 x 1 meter units were dug and the dirt screened for artifacts. Two of the interesting finds today were a gun flint and a very small brass hinge fragment from some sort of small portable box.
