Step back in time at historic Rock Mill and explore one of Fairfield County’s most picturesque landmarks. Discover the historic mill, covered bridge, and scenic gorge along the Hocking River, each rich with stories of the region’s past.

Rock Mill is a water-powered grist mill built in 1824 and the third mill to occupy this site since the 1790s. Visitors can walk through the mill, view its massive millstones, intricate gears, and restored water wheel, and learn how generations of millers harnessed the river’s power to serve the surrounding community.

While you’re here, take in the beauty of the adjacent covered bridge and dramatic gorge that make Rock Mill one of Ohio’s most memorable historic landscapes. Knowledgeable volunteers will be on hand to share the history of the mill, its role in local commerce, and the ongoing efforts to preserve this remarkable landmark.

If your visit leaves you wanting more, return on the last Sunday of September or October to experience the mill in action as it roars to life and grinds corn using traditional methods.

Accessibility Note: The mill contains multiple floors connected by stairways, and some viewing areas include uneven terrain. Access to the covered bridge and the first floor of the mill is available via an easy gravel path.
