Built in 1914 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Mantua Center School was designed to be fireproof following a tragic school fire in the Cleveland area. While the original section of the school is not open for tours, displays will showcase the installation of the elevator, rehabilitation of the bell tower, and preservation projects completed by the Mantua Restoration Society, Inc. throughout the Mantua Center Historic District, including investment information. Restoration of the historic school remains an ongoing effort.
Located just 0.1 mile from the Mantua Center Green, the school is a separate Ohio Open Doors site from the Mantua Historical Society’s main event. Visitors are encouraged to attend National Historic District marker dedication ceremonies at the Green at 11 a.m. or 2 p.m.
Light refreshments will be available. Historic school yearbooks from the mid-1900s through the school’s closure in the 1980s will be on display.
