Step inside the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology and explore a building that has found new life as a center for learning, discovery, and community engagement. Located in a repurposed downtown Akron building near The University of Akron, the center demonstrates how historic spaces can be adapted to serve new generations while continuing to enrich the surrounding community. Today, the building houses the National Museum of Psychology, the Institute for Human Science & Culture, and the Archives of the History of American Psychology. 

Visitors will enjoy free admission to the National Museum of Psychology, the only museum of its kind in the United States, featuring artifacts, interactive exhibits, and stories that trace the development of psychological science. Guests can also explore the Institute for Human Science & Culture Galleries, which examine the human experience through history, culture, and the humanities. 

The center’s roots date to 1965 with the founding of the Archives of the History of American Psychology, which has grown into the world’s largest repository of materials documenting the history of psychology. What began as a university archive has evolved into a public resource that welcomes researchers, students, and visitors from around the world. 

Special behind-the-scenes tours will be offered at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., providing a unique opportunity to learn more about the building, collections, exhibits, and research programs that make the Cummings Center a nationally significant educational and cultural resource. Refreshments, giveaways, and a raffle will round out the day.
