Additional Considerations:
* Accessibility considerations include uneven floors, steps, walking on inclines, and hilly terrain throughout the village.
* The schoolhouse and log house are located a few hundred feet apart from one another with a slight incline between them.
* The village itself is situated across two hills that meet in the middle, so walking hills may be necessary when visiting additional properties.
* Parking is available on the street and one block away at the Yearly Meeting House.

Mount Pleasant, Ohio, stands among the most remarkable small communities in early American history — a hub of antislavery activity, the literary center of its region, and home to 40 antebellum properties, most of them private homes still in daily use. On Sunday, September 13, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, step inside two of those buildings. Built to Last is a free, self-guided open house featuring two preservation stories.

The Log House, a 200-year-old hewn-log structure, now home to a specialty retail shop — a model of adaptive reuse. The Black Schoolhouse, built to serve Mount Pleasant’s African American community when access to education was a hard-won right, is mid-restoration. Here, visitors see preservation in process.

We encourage visitors explore the historic district and imagine life 200 years ago in a small village where big ideas took root and changed the world.
