Ohio History’s Impact on Ohio

The Ohio History Connection (OHC) recently put together a Scorecard outlining the impact that Ohio History has on the Buckeye State. The impact ranges from private investment and economic development to services provided statewide and education. OHC is a private, nonprofit organization that serves as the state of Ohio’s history partner.

Some highlights of the Scorecard include the following:

  • 72 projects were awarded Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credits, totaling $1,162,994,677, a significant 800% increase over FY24
  • $170,900 granted from the Ohio History Fund to organizations throughout the state
  • Since 2012, a total of 149 grants to history organizations across the state, totaling $1.6 million
  • 27 new nominations to the National Register of Historic Places
  • Ohio is third in the nation for number of National Register Listings
  • 339,088 people visited our historic sites & museums
  • 20,672 students used Ohio As America, our 4th-grade textbook
  • 1,238 students participated in Ohio History Day across 10 regions

These statistics—and the Scorecard in its entirety—show the profound reach and lasting influence of OHC across Ohio. Our organization’s dedication is felt in every corner of the state, making a difference that resonates in all 88 counties. As Director of Government Relations Kevin Boehner stated, “The work we do preserves not just buildings, but memories and identities; we are making history accessible for all Ohioans.”
