Step inside the Hocking County Historical Society Museum for an Ohio Open Doors open house focused on the building, its collections, and the local history preserved within its walls.

Visitors are invited to tour the facility and learn more about the museum as a historic community resource. Guided tours will highlight the building’s spaces, exhibits, and artifacts while sharing stories about the people, places, industries, transportation history, and community events that shaped Hocking County. Guests will have the opportunity to explore how the museum building helps preserve and interpret the county’s history for the public.

A special highlight of the open house will be the famous Lutz steam-powered automobile, one of Hocking County’s most unique historic artifacts and a reminder of America’s long history of innovation and transportation. Visitors can also learn about family history research and genealogy resources available through the Historical Society.

As part of the day’s activities, the Historical Society will offer a Hands-On Dutch Oven Cooking Workshop exploring one of America’s long-standing outdoor cooking traditions. Participants will learn about Dutch oven equipment, fire and coal management, seasoning and care, and traditional recipes connected to early American foodways.

This event offers visitors a chance to experience the Hocking County Historical Society Museum through its building, exhibits, artifacts, and public history programs while also enjoying a hands-on activity connected to America 250.
