OHIO EARTHWORKS SYMPOSIUM AT 2013 MIDWEST ARCHAEOLOGICAL CONFERENCE

OHS excavations at Harness Mound — 1903.

Curator of Archaeology Brad Lepper will be giving a presentation on “Ohio’s Monumental Geometric Earthworks: a History of Research by the Ohio Historical Society” at a special symposium as part of this year’s Midwest Archaeological Conference.

The symposium will feature other presentations including a discussion of what it might mean for Ohio to have our Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks nomination approved for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

One of the presentations I’m most looking forward to is Brazilian archaeologist Denise Schaan’s overview of the amazing Amazonian geoglyphs that look so astonishingly similar to Ohio’s Hopewell earthworks.

I hope you will be able to join us on Thursday 24 October from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Downtown Columbus Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The symposium is free and open to the public!
