The 1950s were a decade of opportunity and post-war economic boom, fulfilling the American dream and traditional values. Yet powerful social and cultural changes were forming just under the surface. The decade saw the beginnings of the civil rights movement, a redefinition of women’s roles and the rise of rock-and-roll, as well as changes in art and fashion.

Experience the 1950s at the Ohio History Center

The Ohio History Connection opened a long-term, marquee exhibit on the 1950s in July 2013 at the Ohio History Center in Columbus. The exhibit features a reconstructed Columbus made Lustron home that visitors can walk through and interact with to explore the 1950s first-hand.

While many Americans remember the 1950s, this exhibit offers an opportunity for parents and grandparents to experience it again with their children and grandchildren.
