German traditions and new spring landscapes are the focus of Historic Zoar Village’s upcoming Maifest on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. This is a free event. Visitors who wish to take a tour of the museum buildings can do so at a discounted ticket price of $5 per person.
Attractions include German games, make-and-take projects for children, Plein Air painting, live music from German bands and a German car show. German-inspired food and drink will be available for purchase including Cleveland Kraut, brats and German potato salad from Canal Tavern of Zoar and beer from Lockport Brewery.
Visitors can dance around the traditional maypole, an activity dating back to medieval times that historians speculate was done to welcome the return of good weather and the growing season.
