Historic New Richmond, Inc., the New Richmond Business Association, Renaissance New Richmond, the Military Museum, New Richmond VFW and local businesses invite you to a village-wide birthday party, with five riverside restaurants, three gift shops and community organizations offering Grant specials and activities. A bus will run every half hour to help you get from New Richmond to the Grant Birthplace in Point Pleasant, where you can tour the birthplace of the future general and president, see what a Civil War-era Union soldier’s life was like in camp, and take part in family-friendly activities. The site will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
2 p.m. Grant’s Birthday Proclamation – Local officials and special guests will make proclamations in honor of Grant’s 200th birthday.
3 p.m. Historic Dance Demonstrations – Members of the University of Cincinnati’s Forget-Me-Nots Dance Company will give a costumed demonstration of social dances popular in the early to mid-nineteenth century. Visitors are invite to learn the dance steps and join in the merriment.
4 p.m. – Let’s Eat Cake! – Historic New Richmond, Inc., the local managing organization of the Grant Birthplace invites you to a cake-cutting ceremony and wishes of happy birthday, while celebrating the opening season of the Grant Birthplace Historic Site.
