The Ohio History Connection’s State Historic Preservation Office, in partnership with the Auglaize County Historical Society, will host a Building Doctor Clinic on June 15 -16, 2023 for owners of old buildings in the Wapakoneta, Ohio area. The clinic will be led by Building Doctors Mariangela Pfister, Jessica Chunat, and Vanessa Gabrielle, and will kick off with a free seminar at St. Paul United Church of Christ on June 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. During the seminar, old-building owners in the area will receive guidance on renovation projects and solutions to common problems for buildings dating from 1800 to 1960.
On June 16, from 8 a.m. to Noon and 1 – 5 p.m., the Building Doctor will visit pre-1960 buildings located within five miles of downtown Wapakoneta to provide specific technical or design advice to owners who have made appointments. The Building Doctors will examine all types of older buildings, including those with issues such as persistent peeling paint or flaking plaster, wet basements, deteriorating masonry, and plans for remodeling, additions, or demolitions.
Funding for the Building Doctor program is provided in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Historic Preservation Fund, and local cosponsors also contribute to making each clinic possible.
