When Ohio became a state in 1803, it was not without conflict! Witness the fiery historic debate waged between territorial Gov. Arthur St. Clair and Rep. Thomas Worthington over statehood for Ohio as you step back in time to Gregg’s Tavern in Chillicothe, 1802, where it all came to life. A tour of Thomas Worthington’s historic Adena Mansion will bring history alive!
This program is part of Ohio Statehood Day. Admission for this special event is offered at no cost. Our grounds and museum will be open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Performance times for “Debate Over Statehood” will be at 11 a.m., Noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Visitors Center. Tours of Adena Mansion will take place every half-hour beginning at 10:30 a.m., with the final tour of the day beginning at 3 p.m.
Adena is the restored 1807 home of early Ohio governor and “Father of Ohio Statehood” Thomas Worthington, managed for the Ohio History Connection by Adena Mansion & Gardens Society.
