6-8 p.m.

Dr. Tom Leary will discuss other industrial heritage preservation efforts contemporary with the campaign that resulted in the establishment of the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor. Recently retired from Youngstown State University, Dr. Leary and his firm, Industrial Research Associates, consulted on many of these projects. He will outline the scope of documentation and organizational efforts in Buffalo, Joliet (Illinois), Johnstown and Pittsburgh, among other locations. Illustrations for his talk will include recently-digitized 35mm slides showing the historic equipment and environments that represented an important aspect of American history as well as a challenge to conventional museum practice. In that context the creation of a steel memorial in Youngstown stands as a significant accomplishment.
