The purpose of this project is to expose visitors to Native cultures, past and present, using citizens from Federal
Recognized Tribes whose ancestors fought in St. Clair’s Defeat. Using the underlying theme that famous warriors of Ohio
History were fighting for the preservation of a rich and vibrant community, this two-day event will take place on St. Clair’s
battlefield. The first day will be interactive historic programming feature Shawnee, Miami, and Wyandotte history and
culture, with a special children’s program. The interpretation goals are to: 1) show visitors essential aspects of daily life of
Shawnee, Miami, and Wyandotte people; 2) demonstrate traditional skills and art form; and 3) elaborate on family,
gender, and political roles in the 18th-early 19th century. The second day will be filled with exclusively modern Tribal
perspectives and conversation. On both days, battlefield tours will be offered by Ball State University archaeologists and
