The 2022 Art of Soul! Juried Art Show opens Sat., October 15, 2022. The National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center (NAAMCC) is presenting its ninth annual national juried art show. Artists from the United States were invited to submit their work to the juried art exhibition in response to the theme of Black Love. We asked the artists to reflect on the idea of Black Love. What does Black Love mean to you?

A nationally known panel of art educators and artists reviewed all entries and selected the artwork featured in this year’s show. The 2022 jurors are:

  • Dr. James Haywood Rolling Jr., chair of the Art Education programs at Syracuse University- Dr. Rolling Jr. is a Dual Professor of Art Education and Teaching and Leadership in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the School of Education at Syracuse University and chair of the Art Education programs. In his earlier education, Rolling earned his MFA in studio arts research at Syracuse University while studying as a Graduate Fellow in the Department of African American Studies.
  • Rev. Dr. Rene Wormack-Keels- Dr. Wormack-Keels is a Columbus fiber and mixed media artist who uses materials, threads, fibers, and other mediums to create social, historical, memorial, and beautiful quilts. She is the founder and visionary of the charitable non-profit Quilting Beyond Borders, a program based in the Caribbean islands that provides opportunities for women living there to learn creative arts for market.
  • Marshall Shorts- Mr. Shorts is an award-winning Artist, Designer, Brand Specialist, community organizer, and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Artfluential, a social impact brand + design agency. He is also co-founder of Creative Control Fest and the Maroon Arts group. He serves on several non-profit boards in the city of Columbus. Marshall has presented two TedX Talks. Shorts has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the Columbus College of Art and Design.
