ENGLISH ARCHAEOLOGIST COMPARES STONEHENGE AND THE NEWARK EARTHWORKS IN APRIL PROGRAM


TCD at Stonehenge (1)Timothy Darvill, Professor of Archaeology at Bournemouth University in England, will be giving the presentation Beyond Newark: Stonehenge and prehistoric ceremonial centers in the Old and New Worlds on Monday April 28 at 7:00 PM in Granvilles historic Bryn Du Mansion. Tim is one of the world’s foremost experts on Stonehenge and the only person to have led a team excavating within the ring of stones in this century. He has published several books and papers on the subject, and contributed to the soon-to-be-published volume of essays entitled The Newark Earthworks and World Heritage. Tim’s lecture will look at the characteristics of major prehistoric ceremonial centers in Europe, China, and the Americas with a focus on recent research at Stonehenge and what it tells us about the way such sites developed over time.
