ENGLISH ARCHAEOLOGIST COMPARES STONEHENGE AND THE NEWARK EARTHWORKS IN APRIL PROGRAM

Timothy Darvill, Professor of Archaeology at Bournemouth University in England, will be giving the presentation Beyond Newark: Stonehenge and prehistoric ceremonial centers in the Old and New Worlds on Monday April 28 at 7:00 PM in Granvilles historic Bryn Du Mansion. Tim is one of the world’s foremost experts on Stonehenge and the only person to have led a team excavating within the ring of stones in this century. He has published several books and papers on the subject, and contributed to the soon-to-be-published volume of essays entitled The Newark Earthworks and World Heritage. Tim’s lecture will look at the characteristics of major prehistoric ceremonial centers in Europe, China, and the Americas with a focus on recent research at Stonehenge and what it tells us about the way such sites developed over time. Join us for a journey through space and time to gain a broader perspective on the amazing achievements of the ancient people of Cherry Valley and the Salisbury Plain. Dr. Darvills talk is part of the Life/Local Series at Bryn Du! The Bryn Du Mansion is located at 537 Jones Road in Granville. Admission and parking are free!
