Be a Part of Ohio–Champion of Sports! August 2018

Be a Part of Ohio–Champion of Sports!

When we open the Ohio–Champion of Sports exhibit at the Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio next year, we want you to be part of sharing Ohio’s rich sports stories! There will be several ways for you to be part of our exhibit as we go through the next year, but first we want you to tell your sports stories by donating sports-related materials to our collection!

We are now collecting objects, photographs, letters and library materials that document Ohio sports at all levels. We are interested in items related to amateur, professional and even backyard sports. And, whether you are the athlete, fan, coach, official, broadcaster, team owner or sponsor, we want to hear your stories and share your collections! These pieces might end up in the exhibit in the community collections area or in our changing collections portion of the exhibit!

By donating to our collection, you can help us preserve and share Ohio’s amazing sports history for generations to come. Here are some examples of things we are looking for:

  • Game-used equipment and uniforms from Ohio athletes/coaches/officials
  • ?Cheerleading and marching band equipment Ohioans used at sporting events
  • Signs, noisemakers and other items from the Ohio fan experience
  • Sports equipment Ohio veterans used during their service
  • Items from Ohio sports rivalries
  • Items related to sports injuries and the field of sports medicine
  • Photos and video taken at Ohio sporting events

To Donate

If you are interested in donating items to our collection or would like more information, please contact us at [email protected] or 614.297.2535. Whether you have any of the materials listed above or something else Ohio sports related, we will be happy to answer your questions and discuss your interest in donating. Please note that it may take several business days for us to return your message, depending on the volume of responses.

In the next few weeks you’ll also want to watch this space to learn more about a Kickstarter campaign that will allow you to place your very own sports photos into the Great Moments Theatre to be part of the exhibit alongside rotating photos of Ohio greats like Ray Mancini, Woody Hayes and Katie Smith.

This exhibit belongs to all Ohioans and we want you to help us create it! We are excited to see what objects and artifacts you have to share with us!
