This collection consists primarily of black and white photographs. The prints are printed on matte and/or glossy paper and are in various sizes including 8x10, 5x10, 5x7, 4x10, & 4x5 inches. There is also a company publication honoring Youngstown Sheet & Tube's 75th year anniversary. The photographs originated with the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Safety Department. Company photographer Perc Kelty took photographs of safety messages, safety items, as well as group photographs. These photographs document the awards the company gave to different departments, commemorating significant numbers of man hours worked without disabling injuries. The awards are usually in the millions of man hours. 500 men working for one year is the approximate equal of one million man hours.
Some photographs are dated on the back. The plaques in the photographs also have dates. The dates on the plaques sometimes differ from those on the backs of photographs. The plaques are dated as to when the man hours without injury were achieved. Yet the backs of photographs give the date the photograph was taken. This was frequently done at a later time. The backs of some photographs name those in the photographs, some include the photographer's notes.
