This collection consists of time books from the Rigger and Paint departments of the Republic Steel Corporation during the period 1936 - 1945. Time books are a record of hours worked by employees, usually tabulated by day and week. Materials are arranged by series, and then chronologically within each series. The primary function of the rigger was to dismantle, move, and erect all types of structures and heavy equipment that were used for plant construction and maintenance. Paint Department personnel were responsible for interior and exterior hand and spray painting of mill structures, office buildings, and equipment. Series 1 - Rigger Department
Time books of the Rigger Department list employee names by check number. Notations are made each day regarding the number of hours worked or reason for absence, e.g., the date of discharge for employees drafted for miliatry service during World War II.Series 2 - Paint Department
Lists of employees, etc., are arranged and described in the same manner as the Rigger Department.
The Ohio Historical Society acquired the Republic Steel Corporation Time Book Collection in 1994. Timothy A. Seman processed the collection in 1994. The Ohio Historical Society owns the property rights of the collection. What rights the donor possessed in this collection have been dedicated to the public. Consideration of all other copyrights is the responsibility of the author and publisher. This collection is open under the rules and regulations of the Ohio Historical Society.
