Description: In l983, the Ohio General Assembly established the division of rail transportation development within the Ohio Department of Transportation to succeed the Ohio Rail Transportation Authority (ORTA.) Also created was the Ohio High Speed Rail Task Force to assist the rail transportation development division in formulating a plan to build and operate a high speed rail system as a joint public-private venture. In June of l985, the task force issued a final report summarizing its findings. Records of the task force include: agenda and minutes of task force meetings; legislative service committee reports; task force financial and progress reports; grant applications; requests to submit planning proposals for the design, finance, construction, and operation of a statewide high speed rail system; conference agenda and brochures; lists of task force members and subcommittee members; and general administrative correspondence. Some records from ORTA are included.
2 cu.ft. Records are arranged chronologically by year. The original organizational arrangement of these records was destroyed as a result of subsequent custodians. The task force turned over its records to the division of rail transportation development, which later turned over its records to the Ohio High Speed Rail Authority (OHSRA.)
