The Ohio Department of Natural Resources was created in 1949 to formulate and put into action a long-term comprehensive plan for the development and wise use of the natural resources in the state. In order to operate and fulfill its mission, the department consists of the director, the assistant director, 3 deputy directors, 12 statutory divisions, and 6 offices. There also are several public advisory boards, councils, and commissions that provide public participation in the plans and policies for the work of the department.
