The Division of Banks in the Department of Commerce is the successor of the Bank of the State of Ohio. In October l995 the Department of Commerce merged the Division of Banks with the Division of Credit Unions and the Division of Savings and Loans/Savings Banks into the Division of Financial Institutions. The Division of Financial Institutions regulates state-chartered banks, credit unions, and savings and loans.
