Local History Notebooks

Local History Notebooks provide technical information volunteers and paid staff alike need to know to operate local historical organizations. OAHSM and OHS's Local History Office published Local History Notebooks in the bimonthly newsletter The Local Historian from 1985 to 1998. The Notebooks, previously available only in print, are now available online.

Below is a list of the Local History Notebooks, arranged by subject. To access the text of a Notebook, scroll down the list and click on the appropriate title. The subject headings used below are identical to those used in OAHSM's Lending Library. Local History Notebooks are also listed with the holdings of the Lending Library.

Texts of Notebooks are printable from this web site, however the contents of the Notebooks may not be republished without the prior written consent of the Ohio Historical Society's Local History Office. Note that the texts of some Notebooks are not available online, but can be obtained by contacting the Ohio Historical Society's Local History Office.

Individual copies of all Local History Notebooks as they appeared in The Local Historian are available for the price of $1.00 each. A binder containing the entire set of sixty-five Notebooks is available for $37.00. Checks for individual, printed copies of Local History Notebooks or for the entire set must be made payable to OAHSM. To order or for more information, contact:
