RECORDS OF PERMANENT RETENTION
The following are listings of some records considered to have permanent retention. Please note that these are not a complete lists. If you have questions regarding the historical value of your records, please contact the Local Government Records Program by calling (614) 297-2553. You may also email questions to localrecs@ohiohistory.org. These record series were deemed of permanent value based on one or more of the following: the Ohio Revised Code, The Rules of Superintendence of the Courts of Ohio, and analysis of these record series. Records deemed permanent are not necessarily historically valuable. Often records are to be retained for their administrative and/or legal value. Historical value is determined through the process of appraisal. Appraisal is the process of determining the value and thus the disposition of records based upon their current administrative, legal, and fiscal use; their evidential and informational value; their arrangement and condition; their intrinsic value; and their relationship to other records. This list was complied from the manuals written by the staff of the Local Government Records Program (Ohio County Records Manual, Ohio Municipal Records Manual, Ohio Township Records Manual) and The Rules of Superintendence of the Courts of Ohio. (Copies of these manuals in their entirety are available at http://www.ohiohistory.org/lgr/ or can be ordered by calling 614-297-2553.) County Records |
