Puzzler 1: Daguerreotype, ca. 1845.
- From the Campus Martius Photograph Collection in the Archives/Library, this daguerreotype of a building, was initially thought to picture a structure on the Marietta College or Ohio University campuses, but it turns out to be extant on neither. Do you recognize it?
Puzzler 2: Ambrotype, ca 1850s.
- Taken during the late fall, winter, or early spring (no leaves on the trees), this image of an unidentified street depicts both storefronts and residences. On the right side of the street is a bin of bricks and cut stones. A sign (not visible on the screen) reads: PITT[S?...] [C?]LOTHI[...] (the rest is obscured by the edge of the image). Do you recognize it?
Puzzler 3: This one we know; it is identified on the back of the image.
- The box-type helmet was designed for a specific use at the turn-of-the-century, according to the description on the back. As a hint, the photograph is from the Buckeye Steel Castings Photograph Collection in the Archives/Library, which is a collection of late 19th century and early 20th century foundry scenes.
