(select the image to see larger version.)Street scene; ambrotype; 1/4th size; no case; ca 1855-1860s.
Taken during the late fall, winter, or early spring (no leaves on the trees), this image of probably the north side of an unidentified street depicts both storefronts and residences.
On the side of the first building on the left side of the street there is an illegible sign. On the right side of the street is a bin of bricks and what appears to be cut stone. A sign on a building on the right side of the street, infront of the bin of bricks (though not visible on the screen), reads: PITT[S?...] [C?]LOTHI[...] (the rest is obscured by the edge of the image). There appear to be hills (Eastern Ohio?) in the background beyond the buildings, and a wagon about 4/5 of the way down the street on the left side.
We know it is not Zoar or Schoennbrunn, but other suggestions are Gallipolis, New Philadelphia, or Chillicothe.
