WITH A BOOM!

For a truly bone-rattling celebration of the Fourth of July, the place to be is Fremont’s Hayes Presidential Center for the annual Independence Day Concert featuring the Toledo Symphony Concert Band.

Hear the 1812 Overture Accompanied by Real Cannons!

Set for 2-3:30 p.m. this Thursday, July 4, 2013, on the lawn of Spiegel Grove, home of 19th president Rutherford B. Hayes, the concert includes a performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture featuring Civil War re-enactors who provide unique percussion accompaniment by firing real cannons. The effect is thrilling!

Free Admission

Admission to the 2013 Independence Day Concert is free thanks to title sponsors Crown Battery/Hal & Diane Hawk. Additional funding is provided by Mosser Construction Inc, Richard Binau Insurance & Financial Services, United Ohio Insurance Co. and numerous individuals and businesses who support this popular event.

Bring a lawn chair and come prepared for the weather (sunscreen and/or bug spray). Snacks and drinks will be available for sale at a refreshment stand on the premises. Free parking is available on the grounds of the Hayes Presidential Center and adjoining city streets.

Features Show Tunes, Popular Favorites and an Armed Forces Tribute

Repertoire for the concert includes show tunes, popular favorites, a selection of flag-waving melodies and an Armed Forces tribute. Military veterans in the audience will be invited to stand when the theme of their branch of the armed services is played. Concert-goers are invited to show their patriotic spirit by wearing red, white and blue clothing.

Special Hours July 4

Due to the federal holiday, the Hayes Home and Hayes Museum will observe holiday hours of noon-5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. Concert-goers are encouraged to come early to view the exclusive Hayes Museum exhibit, The War of 1812 on the Ohio Frontier. The exhibit focuses on the important role Ohio played in the war, with special attention to the battles at Fort Meigs, Fort Stephenson and on Lake Erie. Admission to the exhibit is included in the Hayes Museum ticket price of $7.50, $6.50/seniors and $3/ages 6-12. Children younger than age 6 and Ohio History Connection members enjoy free admission.
