Weekend Encounters

Visit the Ohio History Center for a variety of weekend programs. All programs are free with admission and last approximately 30 minutes. 


Thanksgiving Family Weekend - November 28-30

Start a new tradition this holiday season by bringing your family to the Ohio History Center museum. Explore holiday decorations of years past and see a 1950s-style model train layout plus the special exhibits 1950s: Building the American Dream; Going, Going, Gone? Endangered and Extinct Species; and Reflections of an Artist: Emerson Burkhart. Enjoy family activities including Collection Connections, Storytimes and making greeting cards to share with local seniors. And don't forget to shop the museum's Ohio History Store, featuring Ohio-made gifts, food and wine.


Saturday, December 6

11am - Share the Holiday Joy: Card Creation Station
Explore decades of holiday card traditions and make one of your own to spread holiday cheer! Learn the history and purpose of holiday greeting cards and we will share your creations with local seniors to brighten their holiday season.

2pm - Make a Collection Connection with Holiday Cards
Snowmen, reindeer, angels and glitter!  See examples of holidays cards from the late 1800s and 1900s found in the Ohio History Connection archives.  


Sunday, December 7

2:30pm - Staff Picks!
Join museum staff as they highlight fascinating objects from our collection! Delve into the details about the object, its history, and how it fits into our exhibits.
